In Her Own Words

Orphaned at age three. I managed to survive until I was adopted by an American family at age five. My departure required getting on the “flying house”…a huge airplane. We [orphans] had never seen one and it was so luxurious. We each got our own seat and was given hot meals. This was quite the experience as we did not even have electricity at the orphanage.

Growing up I never forgot the excitement I felt of floating above the ocean in my first airplane ride. The take-off had been my favorite part because it not only brought on wanderlust but also it meant freedom and hopes of a new life.

There are many reasons that I did not become a pilot at a young age. My story is full of challenges. Even a time of homelessness. I was able to rebuild my life by teaching music and now have my own studio.  I teach all instruments and vocal lessons.  Then I met my husband who is my biggest aviation fan. No, he is not a pilot or aviation affiliated. But he saw that I truly thrive on adventure and admired my passion for becoming a pilot. In 2014 I signed up for accelerated flight lessons. I trained five days a week for six weeks. On August 26, 2014 I received my private pilot certificate.

My path does not include a career in the airlines. I do have hopes to be able to assist in drop shipments during white-water rafting trips. This past year I began helicopter add-on training to fly to the secluded areas of the rivers in the future. My husband and I have had an excursions outfit for 14 years. We take people white-water rafting, skiing/snowboarding, scuba-diving, extreme overnight hiking and on camping adventures. We actually provide this service for free and include meals.  It is our way of giving back to those who would not normally get to experience these kind of adventures.  This summer I will be travelling to earn my seaplane rating.

Air racing is my ultimate favorite sport. As a Private Pilot I often fly alone. I get exposed to CRM as a racer. The challenges it brings and the skills that you learn while working with a co-pilot has fed my competitive spirit.  Speaking of competition, I also love to compete in pageants. I had not competed since I was young. I lost 70 lbs and then rewarded with the crown of Mrs. California a few months ago and will be competing for the Mrs. American title, the preliminary to Mrs. World.  If I win, I will be the first pilot to hold the title.

Pilots have many dreams of adventure. Flying aerobatics has been fun. Then I was able to complete a wing-walking flight with aerobatics. This is where you climb out of the plane in flight, strap yourself to the top of the wings and do loops and rolls! It was absolutely exhilarating! I was born too late for the moon and too early for Mars, but I still dream of experiencing space. So one of my many goals is to do a stratosphere flight.  Since I was a little girl I have wanted to fly like a bird.  I will be completing my skydiving certificate in hopes to qualify for a special women’s RedBull team that trains in wingsuit flying.

I have met many women who tell me they have always wanted to fly but…they have children, they think that they aren’t smart enough, scared or have too many challenges in their lives to pursue their dream. This lit a fire in my heart to work on changing the perception of WHO can become pilots.  I have seven children now, two of which I flew pregnant up to the day they were born. They also flew with me within days of being born!

I give back to the aviation community by giving flights to Young Eagles and women who show interest in becoming a pilot, serving on the board of several organizations, and donating my time to fundraising for scholarships.  In 2018 my family and I were inducted into the Museum of Women Pilots for our support of the aviation community.  My passion is to inspire women to achieve their dreams.

Network and get to know people in the industry and discover cool milestones you want to add to your life’s flight plan!

In Her Own Words

“I created Women with wings to be a platform to connect Female pilots across the nation! I have started doing Weekly interviews with female pilots, aviators, and people who want to be a part of the women in aviation movement. As of today 7% of pilots are female, and I strive to change that.

I look forward to working with Dalcommtech, as they help WWW create a Scholarship for motivated female pilots to stay thriving!

Women with Wings have a close relationship with “Women Rock Wings” as we share a common goal of encouraging and connecting Female Pilots!

A little bit about myself, I am a Commercial SEL Pilot working on my Multi Add on at the moment. I was inspired to become a pilot by my dad who is currently a first officer for Southwest Airlines. I Hope to one day follow in his footsteps and work for Southwest, another Goal is to become an aerobatic pilot and perform across the US. Outside of Aviation, I compete in Pageants and love painting. Pageants help me expand on my mission by providing information to young women who may not have thought about aviation before, as well as with a title there are more ways to get involved in my community. Painting is a relaxing Hobby that makes me feel accomplished with every finished art piece!

Things to look for in the near future are:

– Women With Wings Scholarship

– Merchandise

– More interviews!

– Women with Wings Association (Female Pilot Community Club)

– Helpful information on job opportunities

–  Zoom Events

– Helpful tips for PPL, Instrument, Commercial, multi and CFI/CFII ”

Women Rock Wings!

Dalcomm logoWomen rock wings logo

Dalcomm Tech is proud to be working with Women Rock Wings!

What are we doing together? Dalcomm Tech and Women Rock Wings both support female aviators around the world! Sounds good. But how do we actually do that? Words are good but… At Dalcomm we are all about working directly with the end user to develop the exact headset they want; personally. This means improving headsets based on end user experience because we care about the experience that each person that uses our products has. That’s how we developed our Pro AV line. Our reps in the Pro AV field all work using our headsets. They helped by improving features and options. So Women Rock Wings resonates very loudly with us. Firstly, we care about and want to help women everywhere. We are specifically working with female aviators to meet their needs and wants for headsets. We’re here to build the headset that YOU want.

Female aviators are special people. Aviation is more than a simple hobby. Aviation is a lifestyle. It takes more than average effort to pursue becoming a pilot. There are more male pilots than women pilots. Only about 7% of the aviation industry is female pilots. All that adds up to a unique and rare group of wonderful, diligent women. Wouldn’t it be unreasonable to not support this group of lovely people?

Stay tuned to our Instagram @dalcommtech to see more really cool female pilots inspiring us all…

Meagan S. Davis, Founder of Women Rock Wings

Women Rock Wings

Who We Are

Women Rock Wings is the only social and networking platform created to  Empower, Support and Promote Women In Aviation while building community through our stories and connecting you with the necessary resources to succeed.

Why Women Rock Wings was created

Women Rock Wings was created out of a sense of desiring a strong community with other female aviators. Once I began building, I saw there were several organizations which existed however they all seemed somewhat distant from one another. Once founded, my desire further developed into becoming a centric destination where women could build community along with finding all of the other amazing resources which already exist.

From Women In Aviation to Sisters of the Skies – and all of the other outstanding female driven aviation organizations — we are all Women who Rock Wings.

Empowering, Supporting and Promoting Women In Aviation is what we do. Remember #WomenRockWings because we were born to SOAR!!!!
