Cooper the Pilot the Aviatrix Advocate

Dalcomm Tech is proud to honor @cooperthepilot (her Instagram name) for her hard work, care for others and simply inspirational example! Per her request we are only using her online profile names. But, even as such, you will quickly see that she a brand worth following, learning from and sharing. Please enjoy and share!

In Her Own Words

Orphaned at age three. I managed to survive until I was adopted by an American family at age five. My departure required getting on the “flying house”…a huge airplane. We [orphans] had never seen one and it was so luxurious. We each got our own seat and was given hot meals. This was quite the experience as we did not even have electricity at the orphanage.

Growing up I never forgot the excitement I felt of floating above the ocean in my first airplane ride. The take-off had been my favorite part because it not only brought on wanderlust but also it meant freedom and hopes of a new life.

There are many reasons that I did not become a pilot at a young age. My story is full of challenges. Even a time of homelessness. I was able to rebuild my life by teaching music and now have my own studio.  I teach all instruments and vocal lessons.  Then I met my husband who is my biggest aviation fan. No, he is not a pilot or aviation affiliated. But he saw that I truly thrive on adventure and admired my passion for becoming a pilot. In 2014 I signed up for accelerated flight lessons. I trained five days a week for six weeks. On August 26, 2014 I received my private pilot certificate.

My path does not include a career in the airlines. I do have hopes to be able to assist in drop shipments during white-water rafting trips. This past year I began helicopter add-on training to fly to the secluded areas of the rivers in the future. My husband and I have had an excursions outfit for 14 years. We take people white-water rafting, skiing/snowboarding, scuba-diving, extreme overnight hiking and on camping adventures. We actually provide this service for free and include meals.  It is our way of giving back to those who would not normally get to experience these kind of adventures.  This summer I will be travelling to earn my seaplane rating.

Air racing is my ultimate favorite sport. As a Private Pilot I often fly alone. I get exposed to CRM as a racer. The challenges it brings and the skills that you learn while working with a co-pilot has fed my competitive spirit.  Speaking of competition, I also love to compete in pageants. I had not competed since I was young. I lost 70 lbs and then rewarded with the crown of Mrs. California a few months ago and will be competing for the Mrs. American title, the preliminary to Mrs. World.  If I win, I will be the first pilot to hold the title.

Pilots have many dreams of adventure. Flying aerobatics has been fun. Then I was able to complete a wing-walking flight with aerobatics. This is where you climb out of the plane in flight, strap yourself to the top of the wings and do loops and rolls! It was absolutely exhilarating! I was born too late for the moon and too early for Mars, but I still dream of experiencing space. So one of my many goals is to do a stratosphere flight.  Since I was a little girl I have wanted to fly like a bird.  I will be completing my skydiving certificate in hopes to qualify for a special women’s RedBull team that trains in wingsuit flying.

I have met many women who tell me they have always wanted to fly but…they have children, they think that they aren’t smart enough, scared or have too many challenges in their lives to pursue their dream. This lit a fire in my heart to work on changing the perception of WHO can become pilots.  I have seven children now, two of which I flew pregnant up to the day they were born. They also flew with me within days of being born!

I give back to the aviation community by giving flights to Young Eagles and women who show interest in becoming a pilot, serving on the board of several organizations, and donating my time to fundraising for scholarships.  In 2018 my family and I were inducted into the Museum of Women Pilots for our support of the aviation community.  My passion is to inspire women to achieve their dreams.

CTRL Systems Inc.

Dalcomm logo

Did You Know?

You probably already know we make headsets for pilots and for professional audio and video applications. But did you know we also make headsets for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs)? That means we make headsets or headphones for companies that make specialized equipment for many different industries.

Here’s a really cool one: Acoustic Ultrasound Detection. Our friends at CTRL Systems It’s specialized instrumentation for listening to things that you can’t hear with the naked ear. Their flagship ultrasound detector, the UL101, can be used to detect the ultrasound produced by small compressed gas leaks, electrical arcing, mechanical friction, and many other industrial sources. That ultrasound is then processed into the audible range so it can be heard by a technician or engineer. Our headset plugs into the UL101 so the UL101 operator can hear the processed ultrasound.

Examples of ultrasound detection include: condition-based monitoring of critical manufacturing equipment, electrical arcing detection in power lines, and even the detection of tiny vacuum leaks on the International Space Station. The UL101 has been on mission aboard the ISS since 2001, where even the smallest leak could be life-threatening to the science teams stationed there.

Check this out, the CTRL equipment is required equipment on NASA flights! Here’s a video of astronauts finding a leak:

CTRL PowerBeam 300 Parabolic Accessory

UL101 Troubleshooter
UL101 LEAK DETECTOR

In addition to their work with NASA, CTRL Systems has also been supplying their ultrasound technology to the United States military and her allies for more than 20 years. As a result of CTRL’s dedication to turnkey integration, the UL101 is a standard tool in many mission critical applications on platforms such as the F-35, the C-130, and the F-18.

Many large companies that you’ve heard of also use these valuable tools. For example, Boeing Commercial Airplanes recommends the UL101 for applications related to the braking system and for ultrasound leak checks in multiple systems for all Boing commercial jet aircraft. Manufacturers like Caterpillar and Volvo/Mack Truck use the UL101 for quality control. And companies like Shell, McCormick Spice, and Schlumberger use the UL101 to detect steam faults, mechanical failures, leaks, and electrical faults in their industrial equipment.

CTRL’s acoustic ultrasound technology serves a diverse array of clients and applications all over the globe. Pretty cool, huh?

Kamil Podolsky – My Pilot Story

Thank you kindly to Mr. Kamil Podalsky in the Czech Republic for working with us to test new helicopter headset designs! Kamil, who has a great sense of humor, brings great style to our team! Here’s his story, in his own words. We hope you also find him inspiring. Please enjoy!

In His Own Words

It all started when I was a little boy. My dad was an army helicopter pilot at the time on the Mi-24, Mi-8 and Mi-17. Almost every night before going to bed he told me about aviation and his stories of flying in the army instead of fairy tales. He was and still is a great inspiration for me. Since that time my goal was clear: I want to become a helicopter pilot. I´ve had aviation as my hobby all my life, studying books, attending airshows, watching aerial movies and always looking up at the sky when I heard the roaring helicopter rotors.

When I was 16 years old I started a pilot training to obtain a private pilot license of PPL(H) at HELI CZECH s.r.o. company (Czech Republic) and at the age of 17 I successfully obtained it. Since that time I have mostly flown overflights to various aviation events throughout the Czech Republic and surrounding states, flights for private purposes, check flights and also training flights with an instructor from mentioned company for refreshing and improving advanced emergency procedures. From my point of view the training of Emergency Procedures is never enough

Model J1 Pilot's Headset

because every pilot quickly and easily forgets it by non-repetition and as soon as this situation occurs for real the pilot must be 110% sure what to quickly do.

At the age of 23  I have done two more important pilot courses. The first was a Commercial Helicopter Pilot CPL(H) and a few months later Instructor´s license FI(H). As soon as I obtained these qualifications the number of flights rapidly increased and since then I have flying as main job at the  Hradec Králové Airport (LKHK).

I am currently 26 years old and I am full-time pilot at HELI CZECH s.r.o. company. I am mostly dedicated to Flight School, HeliTaxi, Sightseeing Flights, Aerial Work and also Aviation Management. My greatest aviation experience to date is several years of international training of many groups of army helicopter pilots where I flew for several hundred hours as an instructor.

The Stats

My approx flight hours (fh) to 14.11.2020

Total: 1 400 fh

PIC: 1 150 fh

FI(H): 550 fh

My type rating: MD500E, BELL 206B, R44, R22 and soon AW-119 or AH-1S COBRA.

Thank you to everyone who has read this briefly written aviation story to the end and I hope that for someone it can be at least a small motivation for aviation life. If anyone has a question about my story or aviation, please do not hesitate to contact me – Instragram: @kapo_pilot / Facebook: Kamil Podolský

Anastasia Dreams of Flying

Luzhevskaya Anastasia Alekseevna – Future Woman In Aviation

Meet Dalcomm Tech’s new friend Anastasia from Yulyanovsk, Russia. Anastasia has dreamed her whole life of being a pilot and loves to fly. She may start flight school as soon as this year. We all wish her success in her hard work pursuing what she loves. Here is the story of her childhood in her own words, mostly (we translated it into English). There is much more on her Instagram to read about, suggested books, films and such but CAUTION, her love of all things aviation is highly motivational… 🙂

In Her Own Words

I was born in the winter of 2002 to Aleksey Luzhevsky, an aircraft engineer, working in Yulyanovsk, Russia.

In 2005, when I was only two years old, I saw her first real airplane and the family tradition was born! Soon after that, Aviastar-SP, an aircraft factory that makes cargo planes, opened its doors in our city.

Here I am on August 21, 2005, Aviation Day, were a monument of the L-29 aircraft was erected in honor of the ‘Creators of Aviation and Aviators of Russia’.

2006, In my favorite red dress. In the top photo, I’m with my mom in one the hangars, standing under the chassis of a TU-204. In the photo underneath, I’m in the museum at Aviastar-SP, next to a model of a AN-124 “Ruslan” from the airline company Volga-Dnepr. And here are a couple more photos from that visit.

2008, 16 August – The day Aviastar-SP opened it’s doors. I’m 5 years old, I’m under the TU-204. 17, August, 2008, I’m at the air show at Ulyanovsk-Vostochny International Airport. In the bottom picture I’m with my mom in front of the M101T aircraft (In the City of Gzhel, southeast of Moscow). And here are a couple more photos from that visit.

2008, at the air show to see the ‘Стрижи” (“The Swift”) and the “Русские витязи” (“Russian Knights”). We got to see the TU-204, EL-76 and AN-124 “Ruslan”. The performance included smaller aircraft  and model aircraft along with jumping parachutists.

2014, August 14-17, in the area of the Ulyanovsk-Vostochny International Airport there was an international air show forum MATF. the main event of the day of the air fleet was the performance of the aerobatic team “Rus”.

2017, This is where the main activity traditionally unfolded in the production of final assembly. Here, all who wish, can see the airplanes, which the Yulanovky factory produces.

But that’s only part of her story! There’s so many more great posts! Give her a follow and read more here: https://www.instagram.com/nastasia.lu/

In Flight USA Offers Unique Reader Experience

In Flight USA Offers Unique Reader Experience

Thirty-seven years ago, a student pilot with a journalism degree had a dream to start a publication featuring aviation news for student pilots and flight schools. Today, that publication remains in the same family and is not only serving flight schools but all of the general aviation industry.

In Flight USA is a newspaper-magazine hybrid that focuses on aviation products and accessories. This last month, the publication featured Dalcomm Technologies on the cover, showcasing the work of this American headset manufacturing company and the efforts it has made to help women in aviation.

“Every month, we feature a company on the cover and give them the opportunity to talk about their work, both inside and outside the office,” said second-generation publisher, Annamarie Buonocore.

The San Francisco-based publication has a combined print and digital circulation of 120,000 readers per month and comes out 12 times per year. Most readers pick up the free magazine at their local airport or FBO, but low-cost subscriptions are available.

For more information on advertising, writing opportunities, or subscriptions, please call the headquarters at 650/358-9908 or email Annamarie@inflightusa.com.

Carmen is a police officer and a pilot. She lives in Switzerland and shares some of the most breathtaking videos and pictures of the mountains from a birds eye view. Being a police officer is not easy. It takes physical, mental and emotional strength and training. It also takes hard work and much study to become a pilot. We applaud Carmen for the fine example of courage and strength she sets for young women everywhere. Follow her on Instagram to get inspired today!  @helicopterpilot_carmen

Carmen Alig-Hangartner
@helicopterpilot_carmen

In Her Own Words

My name is Carmen and I have been flying for 5 years in helicopters. But I will tell you my story from the beginning.

My first education was as a professional dancer. After three years in the school for movement pedagogy it bored me and I transferred the money to Swiss banks. But I needed a change again and I went to the police. I was 15 years as a police officer and for a short time in the special forces.

It has always been my dream to be able to fly a helicopter and one day the dream came true. I was invited to do a trial flight on the EC30 and it was all over me immediately. I then completed my PPL (H) license on the Robinson R44.

Shortly after the PPL training I did the type rating on the EC20 an din the meantime I am working on the MOU training. My next big challenge: I started with the CPL (H) and my goal is to work as a police pilot in Switzerland. But, there is still a long way to go. Last December I started my type rating on the B3

Women Rock Wings!

Dalcomm logoWomen rock wings logo

Dalcomm Tech is proud to be working with Women Rock Wings!

What are we doing together? Dalcomm Tech and Women Rock Wings both support female aviators around the world! Sounds good. But how do we actually do that? Words are good but… At Dalcomm we are all about working directly with the end user to develop the exact headset they want; personally. This means improving headsets based on end user experience because we care about the experience that each person that uses our products has. That’s how we developed our Pro AV line. Our reps in the Pro AV field all work using our headsets. They helped by improving features and options. So Women Rock Wings resonates very loudly with us. Firstly, we care about and want to help women everywhere. We are specifically working with female aviators to meet their needs and wants for headsets. We’re here to build the headset that YOU want.

Female aviators are special people. Aviation is more than a simple hobby. Aviation is a lifestyle. It takes more than average effort to pursue becoming a pilot. There are more male pilots than women pilots. Only about 7% of the aviation industry is female pilots. All that adds up to a unique and rare group of wonderful, diligent women. Wouldn’t it be unreasonable to not support this group of lovely people?

Stay tuned to our Instagram @dalcommtech to see more really cool female pilots inspiring us all…

Meagan S. Davis, Founder of Women Rock Wings

Women Rock Wings

Who We Are

Women Rock Wings is the only social and networking platform created to  Empower, Support and Promote Women In Aviation while building community through our stories and connecting you with the necessary resources to succeed.

Why Women Rock Wings was created

Women Rock Wings was created out of a sense of desiring a strong community with other female aviators. Once I began building, I saw there were several organizations which existed however they all seemed somewhat distant from one another. Once founded, my desire further developed into becoming a centric destination where women could build community along with finding all of the other amazing resources which already exist.

From Women In Aviation to Sisters of the Skies – and all of the other outstanding female driven aviation organizations — we are all Women who Rock Wings.

Empowering, Supporting and Promoting Women In Aviation is what we do. Remember #WomenRockWings because we were born to SOAR!!!!

About CEP

CEP Logo

Communications & Hearing Protection, Inc. (CEP, Inc.) is a growing manufacturer of quality communications systems for military and civilian aviation use. In 1999, CEP, Inc. began manfacturing and marketing the communications earplug (CEP) for use by anyone in need of hearing protection and voice communications.

The CEP is a device that provides the exceptional protection of an expanding foam earplug while passing to the ear the clearest speech signal attainable. Miniature transducers and foam earplugs are coupled to yield a high quality communications device that can be used alone or in combination with circumaural hearing protection. Combining the foam earplug and the sound transducer into a single unit results in a simple but effective approach for providing the user with excellent sound attenuation and unparalleled speech intelligibilty in even the noisiest environments. Presently, CEP, Inc. is the major supplier of the communications earplug to the U.S. and international military and civilian markets.

CEP, Inc. has also developed and markets the Communications Enhancement and Protection Systems (CEPS). This system combines highly sensitive microphones, micro-circuitry and the communications earplug to create a device that enhances sound detection and localization, improves face to face communications, and provides hearing protection for impact and continuous noise and rapid cut-off and recovery during weapons firing. This device has also found a ready military market in aviation and ground operations.

How Do You Make an Airplane Headset Better?

Innovation Is Our Passion

At Dalcomm Tech it’s literally our job to improve existing technology and tools. It’s not just our job, it’s our passion.

We put our mind to the aviation headset and our proud to announce 4 new models! These are designed to go head to head with models you may be familiar with already, but, our headsets have:

Better features

Model J7GA – The Discerning Airplane Pilot’s Choice

J7-GA

This is the starting point. Everyone knows this basic headset. So how do you improve it?

Dalcomm adds better frequency response earphone and microphone. You know how the standard model makes you sound like a subway station announcer, all muffled and tinny? That’s actually on purpose. Military headset folks came to the conclusion that they could cancel out all the frequencies except the mid range of human voice from 300Hz to 5kHz and block noise that way. True, it works to a certain extent but sounds quite unpleasant. We open that window up a bit to 8kHz. The noise cancelling feature is still there but it’s so much easier and pleasant to listen to.

The ear seal is the largest portion of the headset that actually makes contact with you. Why be stuck with what the manufacturer decides is most comfortable? We give you the choice.

Ever buy something and realize you don’t have everything you need to make it truly useful to you? We include everything you need for this headset: Headset, cable, cable clip, headset carry bag, pen. Yes, we give you a pen too. Because we know having a nice pen is also pleasant. We give you not just everything you need, but little extras because that’s how we roll. We want your headset to be the most pleasant experience, second best only to flying itself.

Model J7H – The Discerning Helicopter Pilot’s Choice

Helicopter plugSimilar in all respects to the J7GA but with coiled cord and U-174/U plug. So, all the same improvements as J7GA:

Your choice of ear seals

Better frequency response earphones

Better frequency response mic

Comes with canvas carry bag

We also include a pen in the pen pouch. Why have an empty pen pouch? And because we’re helicopter pilot fans we include a cool Dalcomm keychain. Helicopters are just plain awesome.

Model J7 Pilot’s Headset – Communicate on a Higher Plane

Model J7 GAPilot’s Headset? What kind of pilot, airplane, helicopter, glider, airboat operator? Ok, that’s operator not a pilot, but it’s still loud and our headset still works there. How? Model J7 Pilot’s headset takes the Model J7 Series one step further by adding the versatility of a changeable cable. You can plug into whatever kind of aircraft or craft you fancy. One headset to work with them all.

Better still? Yes. Adapter SBG-4 with a 3.5mm plug and SBJ-USB-PTT allows use with simulators, computer simulators, smartphones and more. SBJ-USB-PTT has a configurable output for the PTT button just tell us what you want it to do.

Better even still? Yes. You can choose what ear seals you’d like. In a super rugged outdoor setting you may prefer simple foam seals. In a more comfortable cockpit you might prefer the luxurious protein leather seals. Or perhaps you prefer the memory foam/gel plush ear seals. You have options.

We should mention we have youth size headbands too. Some of us have a smaller hat size. No worries, we got you covered.

Model J1 Carbon fiber – The Premium Aviation Headset

J3 HeadsetWhen we say ‘aviation headset’ we mean all aviation. The J1 Pilot’s headset has an interchangeable cable, meaning that you can use a fixed wing general aviation dual plugs adapter or a U-174/U Helicopter plug adapter. Better than that, we have options for USB and 3.5mm meaning you can use it for training, video conferencing or even just mowing the lawn.

We’ve added options for what ear seals you want, and what kind of mic. In short it’s fully customizable. Not custom enough? Just drop us a line to sales@dalcommtech.com and tell us what you want. We do special order products too.

And, it’s hand crafted Carbon Fiber. Real, genuine, lustrous carbon fiber. Enough said, but, we’ll say more. Carbon fiber is Lamborghinis and experimental aircraft. Carbon fiber is light. This headset weighs 10.7 oz. You will literally forget you’re wearing it.

Oh yeah, one more feature we think you’ll appreciate: All four models include 3.5mm jacks for aux audio input. Add some background music, a personal soundtrack to your flying adventures.

Better Price

Usually better means more expensive. In this case, part of our requirement for redesign was that better also meant ‘Less Expensive’. Here’s an example: You can find “The other guy” online at $320 our Model J7GA at $292. And watch for sales. We offer additional discounts with coupons and special sales.

Part of having a better price is redesigning the dealer model. Are you a flight school or small airport avionics shop looking for headsets? You may have been turned down by the big guys with ridiculous sales quotes and minimum spends that nobody today could reasonable afford. Contact us today and find out what specialized offer we can make for your specific needs: Call 800-593-6501 or email sales@dalcommtech.com

Better Service

Not only are we super nice and friendly on the phone, and in email, but we’re concerned with your safety too. We clean and sterilize all incoming repairs and service requests as well as, of course, all new product going out. There are officially authorized Dalcomm warranty service facilities in the UK serving UK and the EU, one in Chile serving South America and two shops in the US that handle North America.

Better Warranty

All our aviation headsets carry the Dalcomm Premium Warranty. “The other guy” offers 60 months, and that’s not bad, but, we offer 5 years and 5 months. There are Dalcomm certified warranty repair facilities on three continents. Visit our resellers page to find the one you’re looking for. We’ll always contact you first before we perform any work. No surprise bills.

Better in every way? Not yet. Stay tuned, we’re still innovating.

You Deserve To Be Heard

Winston_Churchill_at_a_BBC_microphone“…we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender” – Winston Churchill

Speaking is a miracle. Hearing is a miracle. By the humble means of our built in tools for speech we’re able to communicate. We share not only the mundane details of necessity and daily functions of life but also of great and deep thoughts, strategies, warnings, even love. The extraodinary human voice makes this happen.

Life’s a Stage

Historically great orators spoke in amphitheatres, great open areas engineered by the clever ancient Greeks, designed to carry sound to as many listeners as possible without the aid of amplification or speaker cabinets. It is truely impressive that the ancients learned about sound and how it travels without the tools we have today.

Today, with the aid of electronics, and our modern day clever people, we build badly designed theaters. Often these buildings are nothing more than large boxes that fit a lot of people. As a result, we too communicate, educate and entertain. Microphones, cameras and speakers, using protocols of VOIP and the like, enable global communication. The ancient Greeks had myths that speak to the ancient human dreams of flying. We do that now. The ancient Greeks embraced and made central to their culture the art of public speech. They were able to speek to maybe a 1000 people at a time. But each of us can do that now, without an amphitheatre. Indeed, now, thanks to social media, YOU personally can be heard by 10’s of 1000’s or even millions. Hopefully, you go viral for something your proud of…

YOUR Precious Voice

The written word carries the text of the speech but think of the difference in impact to actually hear a great orator speak. The power that Winston Churchill weilded with his speeches moved many to tears. He was able to bolster his nations confidence, will to fight and endurance in the face of world war. While you may not be addressing a nation at war, your precious voice communicates volumes by it’s tone by your choice of words. You work and get paid with the help of your precious voice. And never forget, your precious voice means the world to your loved ones.

We are honored that you trust YOUR precious voice to your Dalcomm headset.

Case Study: Comm Failure and Catastrophe

Light Brigade
The following line’s are a testament to the heroic charge of the UK’s famous Light Brigade in the battle of Balaclava.
Remarkable bravery was shown by men who knew their orders were incorrect.
Charge of the Light Brigade
Officers and men of the 13th Light Dragoons, survivors of the charge, photographed by Roger Fenton
Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
   Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of hell
   Rode the six hundred.
The Charge of the Light Brigade
BY ALFRED, LORD TENNYSON

What you might not have heard is the contrasting epic poem of the success of ‘The Charge of the Heavy Brigade’ by the same author. A man named Scarlet, only weeks away from retirement, was reactivated and led a brilliant campaign. He lost only 20 men in a battle that cost enemy lines more than 200 men!

What was the key difference that led one to success and the other to failure? Certainly, no one could question the loyalty or bravery of the soldier in either case. The answer lies in the revealing lines:

Was there a man dismayed?
Not though the soldier knew
   Someone had blundered.
It is still a matter of conjecture to this day who’s fault it really was. Some say it was that the original order didn’t make it through because the orders were misquoted. Others say that even if they made it through the casualties would still have been absurd because of bad strategy.
One thing is for certain, if they’d been wearing Dalcomm Tech gear, they would have had perfect, clear comms, and quite possibly avoided this massive tragedy.

Avoid The Tragedy Of Hearing Loss

BeethovenThe Problem

Tragedy, is an event causing great suffering, destruction, and distress. Sometimes tragedies result from a serious accident, crime, or natural catastrophe. There’s not much that can be done about those problems. However, other tragedies, such as hearing loss from exposure to loud noise, are avoidable and are in your control.

Beethoven’s loss of hearing was a painfully ironic and truly great tragedy. It eventually led him into depression even to the point of considering suicide. Just think of it! Beethoven was the composer of ‘Ode to Joy’, a composition so brilliant and beloved that it was used as the European Anthem two hundred years after his death. Sadly, he could not delight to hear it for himself.

How much noise are you exposed to? For most pilots it’s enough noise to cause hearing loss. An article published by the FAA states: “tests conducted by the Civil Aeromedical Institute (CAMI) demonstrated that all propeller-driven, fixed-wing aircraft and all helicopters are potential sources of damaging noise intensities”. Now think on how much you personally value the sound of your children’s laughter, the caring voice of your significant other, music, the waves crashing on the beach and on and on. How terrible it would be to lose these!

The Solution

The same article from the FAA states that private pilot’s need hearing protection.  They go on to say: “experiments showed that the use of earplugs or similar hearing protection will prevent nearly every difficulty listed.” There are so many headsets to choose from that it’s difficult to decide. Therefore, we’ve provided some reasons to chose the Dalcomm Tech J1 pilot’s headset.

True Style: Protect yourself in style with the J1 carbon fiber pilot’s headset. It’s the Lambourghini of headsets.

True Protection: Trust the protection of Dalcomm Tech headsets because, real scientists say they’re safe. Dalcomm headsets are tested by an independant laboratory.

True Solutions: Dalcomm offers the best solutions for even the loudest aircraft.

  • J1 Pilot’s headset: The J1 provides 23dB of passive noise reduction. That’s enough protection to bring the noise down below the published threshold for safety in many aircraft.
  • J1-ANR: Add protection with ANR (Active noise reduction) and Bluetooth with the J1-ANR.
  • J1-Dual: For very noisy equipment the J1-Dual with in ear communications buds Comply Tips from CEP for an additional 29dB of attenuation. Contact Us for ordering information on J1-ANR and J1-Dual.

The Lamborghini of Headsets

What makes it miraculous?

Lamborghini of Headsets

Carbon fiber is, as Popular Mechanics says, “The Miracle Material”. No doubt you’ve seen many high end applications like the exceptionally expensive Lamborghini and other masterpiece concept cars. Carbon fiber has a number of impressive physical properties. It’s not just about its brilliant luster like the gemstone tiger’s eye, Boeing airliners are made with the stuff. In fact, carbon fiber turns out to be stronger than steel. It’s a whole lot lighter too.  Other properties include resistance to fatigue and corrosion, non-toxicity to humans, a low coefficient of thermal expansion (it doesn’t expand as much as other things when it gets hot), it’s X-ray permeable and not flammable.

Why not use magnesium? Looking at a magnesium flame will cause permanent damage to your vision.  In the event one’s aircraft was downed, if one was careful to look away while lighting such a headset on fire, it may be possible to use the headset as a flare. However, there exists no such possibility with a carbon fiber headset. It would have to suffice for one to look fashionable, with comfortably warm ears, while being rescued.

What about other ‘metal alloys’? Metal alloys are not bad. However, ‘metal alloys’ is a category and includes cheap waste metal mixes that are lightweight but very poor quality.

Why do we use carbon fiber in headsets?

The circum-aural headset is a headset with a cup around the ear. It was first made to solve the problem of communicating in a noisy environment. It also works out well for protecting your hearing. The original headsets issued to military and industrial uses were steel and plastic. That’s because the form of the headset followed it’s function. The headsets held up well but weren’t necessarily that comfortable or light. In fact, it is possible to still buy older brand headsets that continue to be made of steel and plastic and are still made in exactly the same form they were made in since the 1970’s.

Of course, the market is flooded with headsets just like them because, as the colloquial expression goes: ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’. Many have concluded that form must be considered. This is not only because they don’t like certain colors, and maybe prefer black for example, but also because they’re not on the front lines they’re just mowing their lawn and therefore care what they look like. As as result, there are lots of great looking lightweight options out there too.

The real thing?

There are headsets that look like they are made of carbon fiber but they are not in fact made of carbon fiber. Some use a process called hydrodipping to apply the image of carbon fiber. Some print it on by other means. Either way, such headsets pass off vastly inferior construction at nearly the same costs as the real thing. But, how can you tell the difference? Pick it up in your hands. A true carbon fiber headset is nearly half the weight of a traditional military headset. If you’ve been in the military or flown a plane with really old headsets in it and had to wear one of them for many hours you’ll know what an important difference the headset’s weight makes.

This is where Dalcomm Tech enters with a game changer. We believe that headsets should be not only superbly functional and protect your hearing, but also be exceptionally comfortable and simply, great looking. Thanks to this high tech, hand crafted material, carbon fiber, the ideal headset is a reality that you can own. To invoke an automotive metaphor, it’s not just the Cadillac of headsets, it’s the Lamborghini. We’re very happy to be the ones to make it available to you. Shop Now
